Gallowglass by Jennifer Allis Provost

Gallowglass series book one by Jennifer Allis Provost
Synopsis:
Karina didn’t set out to free the Seelie Queen’s gallowglass. Now she’ll do anything to keep him.
After Karina and her brother, Chris’s, lives fall apart in separate yet equally spectacular ways, they leave New York behind and head to the UK. Karina buries herself in research for her doctoral thesis, all the while studiously not thinking about the man who broke her heart, while Chris—who’d been a best-selling author before his ex-fiancĂ©e sued him for plagiarism—drinks his way across the British Isles.
In Scotland, they visit the grave of Robert Kirk, a seventeenth- century minister who was kidnapped by fairies. No one is more shocked than Karina when a handsome man with a Scottish brogue appears, claiming to be the Robert Kirk of legend. What’s more, he says he spent the last few hundred years as the Gallowglass, the Seelie Queen’s personal assassin. When they’re attacked by demons, Karina understands how dearly the queen wants him back.
As Karina and Robert grow closer, Chris’s attempts to drown his sorrows lead him to a pub, and a woman called Sorcha. Chris is instantly smitten with her, so much so he spends days with Sorcha and lies to his sister about his whereabouts. When Chris comes home covered in fey kisses, Karina realizes that the Seelie Queen isn’t just after Robert.
Can Karina outsmart the Seelie Queen, or is Robert doomed to forever be the Gallowglass?
Karina and her brother Chris live in New York where they both experience loss and their lives begin to fall apart. Then, Karina receives a grant to work on her doctoral thesis in Scotland. So they both travel to Scotland where their lives change forever. Scotland is full of beauty and intrigue. It’s here where Karina and Chris experience much more than they could have dreamed of. The magic of Scotland becomes much more than a place for Karina’s doctoral thesis.
While Karina and Chris are visiting the grave of Robert Kirk, a seventeenth- century minister who was abducted by fairies. Suddenly a handsome man appears claiming to be Robert Kirk of the same time lorn legend. He declares that he has been the Seelie Queen’s Gallowglass and personal assassin for the past 300 years. Karina is skeptical until they are attacked by demons. Then the fantasy becomes real and Karina is in the midst of the whole ordeal.
In the meantime, brother Chris is drowning his sorrows in alcohol. Until he meets Sorcha and becomes instantly attracted to her. Karina then realizes that there is much more to the Seelie Queen’s motivation and evil designs.
When Robert applies the magical fairy ointment to Karina’s face, she is able to see beyond the earthly realm, curses and spells, but the ointment also has some side effects that aren’t so good.
Will Karina help free Robert from being the Gallowglass forever?
Gallowglass is an exciting paranormal, romance, fantasy that readers will indulge their minds, souls and emotions in. It is filled with adventure, magic and mythology. Scotland, in and of itself, is an enchanting place and in this story it becomes even more magical, mysterious and captivating. There are fairies, demons, pixies and all sorts of creatures, good and bad, to be had in this fantastic otherworldly tale.
There are many fiery battles that the character Robert must face and these battles are written with animation and a fine descriptive style and voice. I could just imagine the complexion of the large creatures he faced. I was caught up and captivated from the beginning to the fulfilling end. It is fast paced, full of action and engrossing.
I loved the characters, they are fabulous and well developed. Karina’s personality shines and the narrative between the sister and brother, Karina and Chris, was written very well and I found it to be very appealing. I fully connected with the characters and felt drawn to them and marveled in their quests.
Jennifer Allis Provost writes and composes a very descriptive piece of work in Gallowglass. The scenery, battles and creatures are well defined and extremely vivid and exciting. There is romance, magic and legends to be found in this highly recommend novel.
The premise of the story is unique and original, I haven’t read anything like this before. It’s full of creativity and has a fresh plot and storyline with genuine characters.
Gallowglass is an absorbing story that will capture reader’s attention from start to finish. It is highly entertaining and gripping, as I couldn’t put it down.
I highly recommend Gallowglass to all urban fantasyparanormalromance lovers out there, and am looking forward to the next book by this excellent author Jennifer Allis Provost.

The best mother on earth!
From the author of the award-winning Snowman Paul series, comes this life-affirming volume which celebrates mothers, Mother Nature and the nurturing instinct we all share. The heartwarming, rhyming text is perfectly matched with gorgeous watercolor illustrations which show the timeless love between a mother and her child. The book honors Mother’s Day while it teaches that everyone on earth is part of one big family..
Dan and Snowman Paul are getting ready to celebrate Mother’s Day in grand style! But who is Snowman Paul’s mother and how can they both celebrate Mother’s Day together? Join Snowman Paul and Dan in this charming new adventure where they explore the meaning of Mother’s Day and Earth Day and in the process they learn new things about how families and nature work.
Mother’s Day is around the corner.
Snowman Paul declares to Dan that he has the coolest mother of all. “She holds you when you need a hug/She heals you when you catch a bug/She’s nourished you with love since birth/She is the best mother on earth”. Dan agrees but then he asks Paul: “What about your mother, Paul? Who is your mother?” Snowman Paul’s answer is both wonderful and instructive. Then Paul recounts the day when Dan made him into a snowman, after the big snow storm. Paul adds that he is part of the family of Mother Nature and that we are all a part of the family of Mother Nature. And that there are many mothers of many kinds, and all are important.
Yossi Lapid has hit it out of the park with Mother’s Day with Snowman Paul, a special tribute to mothers everywhere. Dan thinks about how special his own mother is and how she nurtures him by doing several motherly things. This really hit home with me as a mother and grandmother. It will help young children to reflect on how special and important their own mother is-just in time for their own Mother’s Day celebration. It shows children that they should appreciate, love and respect their own mother for who she is and what she does for them.
But awarding winning author, Yossi Lapid, doesn’t stop there. He magically adds in the importance of how we are all connected, like brothers and sisters, by Mother Nature. And how Mother Nature is the mother of all things on our beautiful planet.
The whimsical rhyming, large fonts and simple short sentences makes this book perfect for young children and early readers. It is written in a way that will hold the child’s attention and give them another important and valuable lesson in life. All of Yossi Lapid’s delightful books for children have valuable heartfelt easy to understand themes and lessons to them. His books are charming and enchanting and this one, Mother’s Day with Snowman Paul, is especially compelling and special.
We can’t read a story by Yossi Lapid without recognizing the beautiful fanciful watercolor illustrations by Joanna Pasek which gives the entire book a very special theme with a delightful visionary appeal, that children will and do love.
If you haven’t discovered Yossi Lapid’s children’s books, then now is your chance to get one and read it to your child and find out how enchanting and special they are.
